A great history. The novel does not quite match the first s book in this series in that it did not have the action and characterization as the first and a lot more narrative.

If you like your history sweetened with a touch of fictional drama then this is a story you will come to love. Uthred is the man we all wish to be and Alfred is the King who keeps him sane. Excellent book and a great series by an accomplished author
